Alternative Renewable Energy
The population of this planet is on the rise speedily. More and more economies are being developed. The use for electricity is greatly influenced by both of these factors. Today, this electricity need is still being met with non-renewable energy sources. Burning non-renewable sources of energy , however, is harmful to our planet and most importantly our well-being. That is why the search is on for alternative renewable energy sources. Our fossil fuel consumption comes with undesirable side effects, namely global warming, acid rain and smog.
For a long time nuclear power was believed to be the answer to our energy dilemma. Nuclear Power, however, also has some inherent drawbacks linked to it.
At this moment in time, renewable alternative energy forms are being considered as the greenest alternative to nuclear power and fossil fuels. Given all potential types of renewable energy power the three that are the furthest researched ones are solar, wind power and marine energy.
Using solar power means to use the power that is contained within the sun light. Wind energy technology uses wind turbines to generate electrical power. Marine technology uses the waves and tides to make electricity. These days consuming fossil fuels is still a major part of our power generation process even though there are many alternative renewable energy alternatives that are already available.
The aim of this article is to investigate these reasons in terms of renewable alternative energy.
One of the major characteristics of any renewable energy power source is that it refills itself again and again. Compared to fossil fuels we we can't run out of the energy from the sun, wind or waves on the earth - at least not for a very long time to come.
A second advantageous aspect of alternative renewable energy is the fact that its' generation does not create any negative green house gases that pollute our atmosphere. For this reason renewable alternative energy is often called a clean and green energy source.
It is certainly advantageous for us as a society to use directly available forms of energy. Avoiding forms of energy that endanger our health and our environment, such as fossil fuels and nuclear power will also benefit us.
Great amounts of power are being released by the sun continuously. It is a sensible thing to do for our society to use this renewable energy power and convert it into energy that we can consume. People are so motivated to use solar energy in their homes first of all because it is an power source that is freely available in such immense amounts. Solar power has has been used in housing for many centuries, in the form of windows as a natural light source and to contribute to warming the houses.
In the recent past more people have commenced to use solar power to also make hot water for their household, too. Solar technologies such as solar hot water systems and solar heaters for swimming pools have become increasingly popular.
When using wind turbines to produce electricity no green house gases are released into the environment. Our nation can harness enough power from wind power to satisfy all our energy needs. Unfortunately, the speed with which wind energy developed as an renewable energy power over the last few decades has been relatively slow. The process of pumping water and grinding grain using windmills has been around for centuries. In a sense, wind energy is a a spin off of solar energy. While the earth is spinning different sections of the atmosphere are being warmed up while other sections cool down again once the sun has moved away. These differences in temperature also cause differences in atmospheric pressure. These differences in the pressure of different parts of the atmosphere lead to the development of wind. Presently, wind industry is advancing rapidly as a new alternative renewable energy type. The most frequently implemented wind technology, that is quite elementary but powerful are wind turbines. Rotor blades are being attached to an power generator. The blowing wind first turns the blades and thereby indirectly the generator. Power is then being generated by the generator. Several wind farms have already been created in many different countries to take advantage of this renewable alternative energy source. While many of these wind farms can be found on dry land supplementary research is being conducted to promote the evolution of offshore wind farms. Offshore farms could take advantage of the more frequent and stronger winds that blow on the open sea. Very promising wind farms have been erected along the shorelines of some nations over the last few years With a further advancement of wind power technology wind power could soon develop into one of our major energy sources. Nonetheless, to really satisfy all of our current and future energy needs solely with alternative renewable energy we need more improved technologies.
